The link between Whiteheath Infants School and the Rekebnaha School in Gondar is a unique twinning between a very special and popular infants school in Ruislip, Middlesex and a very new and tiny school in Gondar that is the result of one woman's lifetime dream.

The Whiteheath side of this school link is run by Christine Lake, whose sons are at Dr. Challoner's Grammar School, the home of GondarLink. She bubbles with enthusiasm about all things African and her keenness has certainly spread to her young pupils who, despite their tender ages, have spent long hours making drawings and paintings to send to Gondar to show their Ethiopian friends aspects of their own lives in southern England. Whiteheath have, in 2004, had a very special week of African arts, crafts, stories and activities at the school and this has put into clear focus their important and central link with Ethiopia.

Over in Gondar, the Rekebnaha School is in its own infancy! Rekebnaha Gedamu spent many years saving up her own money and trying to find sponsors who would help her to start her own school. Despite all sorts of problems and hitches, she has won through and her new school is an absolute favourite with the Gondar parents living in her part of the town. She has endless commitment and energy to give to her school and the wonderful pictures produced for their link school in England have been received with delight and admiration.
