2000:
Had the idea of doing a big bike ride. Where? Who for? You guessed it: from Amersham to Gondar for Gondarlink. That's where the idea stayed for some time, in my head or at least only as a bit of a dream really.

2001:
I told Kate. That was it, she wouldn't let me leave her out of it: we were going!

Spring 2003:
Kate and I (eventually!) approached Chris with the idea for this expedition, and some more definite plans.

Summer 2003:
More concrete planning starts to take place with earnest. Long lists of ideas, fundraising plans were drawn up. We spent hours on the web checking things out. A route had pretty much been set, but finance was still our biggest worry.

November 2003:
We finally draw up a package to give to potential sponsors. It includes a letter, some Gondarlink info and a reply slip. We're pretty pleased with it. Our plans are unleashed on the unsuspecting public at Chris's choir's performance in High Wycombe. Printing off of about 300 BikeEthiopia packages and a little speech from the two of us, errr mainly Paul thanks to stage fright from Kate! I guess now, there's no going back! Things are now in full swing and we even get added to the new look GondarLink website.

January 2004:
We have and are sending out hundreds of letters to potential sponsors and helpers; this also includes the media, manufacturing companies and outdoor sports companies. No time wasted in making use of the parents and siblings in the helping of labelling envelopes!

February 2004:
We are currently eagerly awaiting replies from the various companies, some of which we have already had some form of response.
